Learning
how to increase your faith
There is some important basic steps to being able to be
used of the Lord to perform miracles from healing the sick to even raising the
dead. If you are serious and as a believer
already should be, here are some starting points that will help you in
increasing your faith:
- First and most important, be right with
God. You can only
be accepted into His kingdom through repentance, water baptism in
the name of Jesus Christ and the receiving of the Holy Ghost according to
Acts 2:38.
- Fast and pray.
Fasting involves not just going without food, but consecrating
yourself to the Lord, not doing something like watching entertainment or
appeasing the flesh in some other way.
I do not recommend going without water. When it says regarding Jesus in Matthew 4:2:
“And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.” , it never said He
was thirsty. I am not saying to drink A LOT of
water but I also not recommending to do without it altogether. IMPORTANT! If
you have a health condition, ALWAYS consult with your physician and your
pastor before doing this. Be lead
of the Lord but if you are assured your Pastor is being led of God, talk
with the Pastor and if you doctor does not recommend you fast. DON’T unless
God directs you. You assume the
responsibility for knowing if it is the Lord and not just your own
wishes. There is a whole Bible
study on this that you need to do further research and be informed, not mislead.
- Be studied in the Word of God. Romans10:17(KJV)
“ So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by
the word of God.” You have to however take heed that you are hearing correctly and
comprehending what is being said and read. This involves more than just reading
your Bible, but researching
it. I strongly recommend the Sunday
School books that I use from Word Aflame Press, Teacher’s Edition. You may have something similar. This is just one that I use that is very
thorough, yet I still will do research on their studies to be convinced
for myself what is being taught is Biblically correct.
- Seek the leading of the Lord. When praying ask the Lord to lead you
and for His will to be guiding you.
You need to seek His will, not your own. When the matter is personal, you may
wish to plead with the Lord. Still,
you have to have the humility to do as Jesus did when He was at the Garden
of Gethsemane to say “…not my will, but thine, be done.”
(latter part of Luke 22:42).
- Ask the Lord to reveal areas of doubt in your
life. Sometimes when someone is too
close to a problem, they miss it.
It takes being honest and be willing to accept advice and always
strive to surrender your will to Christ’s.
It isn’t easy to do as the flesh which is one’s own worst enemy
more than the devil, will fight and resist anything that is selfless and
causes sacrifice. Still it is
necessary.
- If your faith is growing, you will begin to
notice it. If you DON’T react
surprised when the Lord actually does something for you or someone else, that
is a good indicator your faith is growing.
